Former University of Michigan star, Denard Robinson, found himself in a precarious situation earlier this year. After allegedly crashing into a street sign while intoxicated, Robinson was subsequently arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). The incident, which was captured on police video at around 3:05 AM by the Ann Arbor Police Department, showed Robinson passed out behind the wheel of his wrecked SUV.
As law enforcement officers approached the scene, Robinson appeared to be sound asleep in the driver’s seat despite their attempts to wake him up. When he finally came to, Robinson seemed disoriented and struggled to answer basic questions from the police. He exhibited signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, and attempted to deny that he had been involved in a crash, despite the obvious damage to the front of his vehicle.
During the stop, Robinson was asked to perform field sobriety tests, all of which he seemed to fail. He exhibited poor balance and motor skills, wobbling while trying to walk in a straight line and struggling to stand on one foot. After refusing a breathalyzer test, Robinson was ultimately handcuffed and taken to a nearby jail. A subsequent blood test revealed a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of .158, nearly twice the legal limit in Michigan.
As a result of the incident, Robinson is now facing charges of OWI. Despite pleading not guilty at a hearing last month, he is scheduled for another court appearance in three weeks. Robinson, who rose to fame during his time at the University of Michigan and later played in the NFL, has since faced intense scrutiny over his actions. Following his retirement from professional football, he returned to the Wolverines as the assistant director of player personnel but left the position shortly after news of his arrest became public.
The Aftermath
The downfall of Denard Robinson serves as a cautionary tale of the consequences of poor decision-making and irresponsible behavior. His once-promising career has been marred by this incident, tarnishing his reputation and casting a shadow over his accomplishments on the field. As he navigates the legal process and faces the repercussions of his actions, Robinson must come to terms with the potential consequences of his choices and work towards redemption and rehabilitation.
