The highly anticipated sequel to the immersive theater sensation “Sleep No More,” titled “Life and Trust,” made its debut this past week to a packed audience. The show, produced by Emursive, follows the story of a banking tycoon during the Great Depression and takes the audience through six subterranean floors of a Financial District skyscraper. With the success of its predecessor, curiosity surrounding the new production was at an all-time high, leading to a star-studded opening night.
Notable guests at the premiere included Murray Hill and Bridget Everett, co-stars of HBO’s “Somebody Somewhere,” who ran into showbiz legend Lorna Luft during the performance. The star-studded event also saw appearances from David Byrne, Darren Aronofsky, Gina Gershon, Joel Grey, Ira Glass, and Rachel Antonoff. Comedian Jackie Hoffman was spotted enjoying a particularly steamy scene during the show, adding a touch of humor to the evening.
During the show, audience members found themselves engaged in a chase scene involving one of the characters, Mephisto, which resulted in a minor roadblock caused by celebrity guests. It wasn’t until an impatient audience member called out for them to move that the show could continue uninterrupted. The performance also reportedly included a homoerotic boxing match, adding an extra layer of intensity to the already intriguing storyline.
Overall, the opening night of “Life and Trust” was a night to remember, filled with excitement, laughter, and unexpected encounters. As the follow-up to the long-running success of “Sleep No More,” this new immersive theater experience promises to captivate audiences and keep them on the edge of their seats. With a talented cast and a unique storyline, “Life and Trust” is set to become the next must-see production in the world of immersive theater.
